Bernard Liautaud, General Partner at Balderton Capital
Bernard is a Partner at leading VC firm Balderton Capital. He founded Business Objects in 1990 and was CEO for 15 years then Chairman until January 2008. With 6,700 employees, 45,000 customers and $1.5 billion of revenue in 2007, Business Objects was the world leader in Business Intelligence and one of the 15 largest software companies in the world. Business Objects was the first European software IPO on Nasdaq in 1994. In January 2008, Business Objects was acquired by SAP for $6.8 billion, making it the third largest software acquisition at the time.
Bernard is a member of the SAP Supervisory Board and its strategy committee. He is also a member of Cap Gemini’s board and its strategy committee.
He has received a number of distinctions including “Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur” in 2007 in France, Time Magazine Europe's Digital Top 25 and BusinessWeek Stars of Europe of 2002, Top 10 CEOs in North America by Chief Executive Magazine in 2001.
Carles Ferrer, General Partner, Nauta Capital
Carles joined Nauta in 2007 as a General Partner after having led one of the largest Venture Capital entities in Spain and having accumulated 10+ years experience in the industry. Carles managed 4 different VC funds since 2000 and has been involved in 40+ transactions throughout these years, mainly focused on IT related and media companies, with a special focus on Security and Enterprise Software.
Carles led a take-over of part of his former portfolio which was incorporated as part of Nauta II Tech Invest portfolio by end 2007. This allowed Nauta to strengthen its Security and Enterprise Software investment practice.
Before joining Nauta, Carles was Managing Director of the VC division at Riva y García. His previous experience includes management positions in corporate strategy divisions in the Telecommunications, Defence and Auto spaces. Earlier in his career Carles also was an auditor with Ernst & Young.
He holds a Business Administration degree from Universitat de Barcelona, Graduate Programmme in Administration and Management from Harvard University, and an MBA from SDA Bocconi (Milan, Italy).
Laura Urquizu, Director of Seed Capital and Emerging Companies, Corporación Caja Navarra
Laura is the Director of Seed Capital and Emerging Companies at Corporación Caja Navarra. She is also member of the Board of Directors of 8 companies, all of them in the technology sectors. Furthermore, she is involved in several social initiatives, for example in the Tribucan project (entrepreneurship education for children at school), Eurecan, a unit for entrepreneurs that since 2007 is one of the co-pilots or mentors for entrepreneurs who start their career, she is Adviser of the Boards of Directors of several companies invested in by Corporation Can and is also sponsor of the Foundation Cetenasa (CEMITEC).
Previously at Caja de Ahorros Municipal de Pamplona she lead a project for the introduction of the Euro. Since the company was merged with Caja Navarra in 2000, she has held various positions in the area of Media: project manager and later Director of Organization, until her appointment in January 2004 as Director of Organization and Technology, and months later, in late 2004, Director of Media Can (Organization, Channels, Technology and Fixed Assets). In April 2005 she joined the Can Board of Directors.
She worked previously for Arthur Andersen, where she carried out auditing and consulting work, including an internal organization work at the company headquarters in Chicago for 6 months
Laura holds a degree in Economics from University of the Basque Country in Spain.
Helena Torras, VP Operations
Helena joined Abiquo in 2007. Between 2008 and 2009, she assumed the role of interim CEO during a critical time of corporate development. Prior to Abiquo, Helena was General Manager of SARDomus, a public health services division of a Spanish hospital group. She also has extensive experience as a strategic consultant with the management consultancy firm PR&G Group.
Helena holds a B.A. and an M.B.A. in business administration and management from Ramon Llull University ESADE (Barcelona, Spain) and an M.B.A. in international management from McGill University, in Montreal, Canada.
