Abiquo Named One of Network World’s ‘15 Cloud Companies to Watch’

Company recognized as ‘an innovative vendor who makes the transition to Cloud computing less daunting’

Redwood City, Calif. — May 24, 2010 — Abiquo, a leading Cloud management solution provider, today announced it has been chosen by Network World as one of the 15 Cloud companies to watch. To be included in the list, vendors must offer innovative ways to make the transition to a cloud-based world less daunting.

Abiquo, the first company listed in Network World’s 15 Cloud companies to watch list, was selected because it has tackled two critical problems plaguing every IT organization that operates a virtual infrastructure — how to manage it effectively and how to avoid vendor lock-in. “Abiquo is honored to be included in Network World’s list of 15 Cloud computing companies to watch,” said Pete Malcolm, CEO of Abiquo. “We’re committed to providing next generation Cloud management solutions that help enterprises, development labs and hosting providers cost-effectively manage and secure their Cloud environments.”

Network World cited Abiquo’s unique cloud management software capabilities including its use of a “Resource Cloud” to completely separate the provisioning of physical infrastructure from the virtual applications infrastructure. As a result, Abiquo’s software, running on a central server, auto-discovers machine resources, manages existing live virtual machines, and captures and stores "stateful" virtual machines, freeing up IT staff from basic provisioning and management of the Cloud and enabling them to focus on higher value-add activities such as analyzing real-time usage metrics, which are also provided by Abiquo’s solution, to focus on optimization and proactive hardware and systems management.

Network World also noted that Abiquo’s latest version, Abiquo 1.5, adds enterprise-class, policy-based workload management, enforceable resource limits and multi-tenancy capabilities that provide delegated provisioning of virtual enterprises.

“What this all means for enterprise IT shops is the grand promise of vendor-neutral, interoperable management of virtual resource pools, be those inside the company or out in the Cloud,” stated Beth Shultz, author of Network World’s 15 Cloud companies to watch list.
