Abiquo has seen consistent growth since its creation, and 2018 has proved to be another exciting year for our cloud management platform. Not only have there been a number of new Abiquo releases that have enhanced usability for the end user and functionality for our customers’ product offerings, but major service providers such as Telefonica have demonstrated our reach and scalability.

Abiquo releases and cloud orchestration success

Abiquo has matured over the last year, progressing from release version 4.2 in early 2018 to 4.5 today.

The beginning of the year brought a big milestone with Abiquo 4.2 and the addition of new dashboard widgets, unified remote access for all clouds and improved admin tools.

Abiquo 4.2 was intended to help users and cloud admins to get more from the hybrid cloud, by presenting usage information in useful new ways. Of course, technical features were included too, such as support for configuring NAT with VMWare NSX, more granular configuration for software defined network firewall rules, new workload placement policies for clustered hypervisors and additional information displayed for self-service backups.

Amongst the major upgrades in Abiquo 4.2 were the new home view with 3 tabs (optimization, hybrid and metrics) to give more visibility into hybrid cloud resources and how they’re utilized, integration with Apache Guacamole for unified remote console to all cloud VMs, a new backup policies tab on the VM control panel where users can quickly access backup information for the VM plus other backup information enhancements.

The end of August brought Abiquo version 4.4 with a main focus on cloud bursting and automation, that permits users to provision resources in ANY cloud – bursting between private cloud data centers or from public to private, and not just in the public cloud when private resources were fully utilised.

During this last year, within the MSP’s ecosystem, there was an increased focus on automation, billing, provisioning, and support of cloud services and with Abiquo 4.4 users can finally find a way to create automation policies which combine application performance data, VM performance metrics, cost information and date/time needs.

Also, we’ve made possible for users to get more information about their cloud spend both in public and private clouds, created Oracle Cloud Infrastructure support and helped Service Providers and IT Admins to offer new managed services and control user privileges in a more granular way to better tailor their service to their customers’ needs.

December has brought the last release of 2018: Abiquo 4.5 – including closer integration with vCloud Director and deeper support for VMware DRS rules to save license costs as major improvements as well as new multi-cloud capabilities, improvements in the user interface and within the public cloud so that users will find easier management of larger public cloud estates.

It’s been a great year, onto 2019…
